Important change to the points system for Season-Ranking
The beginning of the 2012 competitive season has brought about an important change to the points system for Season Ranking.
Up until now a competitors earned Ranking Points for the relevant weight class which they compete in are entered into the dababase. The same numbers of points are awarded in the next lying category, above and below that of which they competed at. The reasoning for this being that top competitors can be appropriately seeded in the event of a change in weight classification.
In practice it has shown that highly rated competitors are not only at the peak of their own weight category but also that of the neighbouring categories, above and below. It has therefore been agreed with the ETU that competitors will receive their points in their own weight class, however their neighbouring category, above and below, will only receive 50 % the number of points as of that in their starting category.
The new 50 % rule raises the question by Olympic tournaments as to which categories the full ranking points should be awarded to. In the future a program will check a competitors latest starting category. In the case that this weight class is not identical to the Olympic category then the full amount of points will be awarded in the category of the latest start; and the neighbouring lower and higher categories will be awarded with 50 % of the points.
Provided that in the male Olympic category over 80 kg - or female Olympic categorie over 67 kg - no previous entries exist, the full number of points will be awarded in full in the male classification up to 87 kg (female classification up to 73 kg). Higher an lower categories again will be awarded 50 % of these points.
Manual amendments are no longer possible.
