Interview in “Taekwondo Aktuell” magazine.

In February of 2013 an interview with Peter Bolz, the founder of TaekwondoData, was published in the German magazine “Taekwondo Aktuell”. Here he talks about and answers questions on all topics concerning the database. We have published the interview here for anyone interested in taking a look behind the scenes of TaekwondoData, the problems that arise in the creation of such a database and information regarding their future plans.
Removal of the Paris Open 2012 Results
An attentive visitor to our website has made us aware that the results of the 2012 Paris Open were entered as an A Class tournament in TaekwondoData despite it not actually having been an ETU A Class tournament.
Enquiries made to the ETU have confirmed that the Paris Open 2012 was indeed originally entered into the calender as an A Class tournament. At a later date the tournament was removed from the calender.
Due to the fact that the Paris Open 2012 was not an ETU A Class tournament, the results and awarded ranking points have been removed from the TaekwondoData database. We ask for understanding in this decision.
Videos in TaekwondoData
In 2009 the WTF introduced Video Replay. Since TaekwondoData record all the results of fights at all of the big tournaments it has therefore offered the opportunity to provide a link in the database to view these videos. However, it has not been possible to estimate how time consuming this process will be and had, for the time being, put on the 'back burner'.
During the Austrian Open 2012 it was agreed that TaekwondoData, together with company Dartfish - one of the leading producers of video replays - that Dartfish's video's would be linked into the TaekwondoData database.
The first videos from 2012 are currently being linked. The link can be found under the respective competitiors, (e.g Bahri TANRIKULU) in the menu under "Rivals and results".
A linking of all the videos is only then possible if all fights can be recorded into the TaekwondoData database. To enable this the pool lists from all tournaments are required. For the reason that not all pool lists have been made available due to organisers (unfortunately) not returning them, some championships only have medal winning videos available for viewing.
Ranking: Free interface
TaekwondoData is offering all operators of Pool Management systems an interface to TaekwondoData. This interface enables all operators to seed tournaments which have no status with the WFT or the ETU.
This interface will be made available to the operators of Pool Management systems free of charge and with no conditions attached. They will be able to access the interface at any given time to seed the participants of your appropriate championships according to the ranking of TaekwondoData. In return the organisers are responsible for a one off charge of just €250 made payable to TaekwondoData. In this way organisers are guaranteed to be able to offer its athletes a professional tournament at minimal cost.

Ranking for Cadets
Due to popular demand TaekwondoData will be releasing a ranking for Cadets in the next few weeks.
Provided no date of birth is known it will be assumed that the competitor has first competed at a championship as of the age of 12. Three years later the competitor will automatically be removed from the ranking list as they become a Youth.
The same requirements for the youth ranking apply to the cadets. Within the weight categories athletes' success will be rewarded with 100 percent Tournament points and Fight points, the neighbouring weight category above and below will be credited with 50 percent of these points. No ranking will be carried forward from Cadets to Youths.
Who are the most successful national coaches?
The TaekwondoData database enables you to inform yourself about the successes an losses of over 23,000 international competitors. Thanks to the multitude of ranking lists it is possible to gain a completely realistic assessment of those successes.
All successful competitors are, and have been accompanied throughout the duration of their careers by countless coaches that have significantly contributed towards the success of their career. The names of our successful athletes are well known, however often the names of their coaches are only known by a few.We are striving to change this.
We have compiled a complete listing of all tournaments (since 1973) and all nations together with their teams (male and female), which is well over 10,000 lines long. We ar currently sending out a list to each nation displaying all off the tournaments in which the country was represented by a team, male and / or female.
The countries should forward this list on to the relevant people who are able to complete this information for us. We are hoping that as many nations as possible fulfil our requests.
Once we have all, or a main part, of the names of the national coaches listed we will be able to answer a hotly discussed question: Who ist the most successful national coach?
It is therefore fairer if the national coach be awarded all of the won Ranking Points (Tournament Points and Fight Points) accumulated by their entire team. This way it can be guaranteed that the coaches receives extra Ranking Points for medals won by their competitors in addition to those points achieved for wins accrued by the whole team.
To make this result fair to those countries which do not always send a full team to each tournament, we will divide the total number of achieved Ranking Points through the number of participants within the team. In this way the coaches will be rated realistically an fairly against each other.
